PEAK SEASON – Our Top 5 Tips

1. COMMUNICATE DEADLINES

Communicate your deadline/s clearly with your supplier. We recommend that both parties agree well in advance on the steps that are to be taken (who will be liable and for how much) in the event that production runs over time.  Should this happen it is much easier to resolve issues swiftly and with less stress if both parties already know what is expected. Get this is writing.

2.ADD A BUFFER

To production times & to shipping transit times.  Shipping lines often over book vessels, there is the possibility that the container which you goods are travelling in may be bumped to the next vessel.  Commercial aircraft give preference to passengers and their luggage, if their load is full there is a chance your cargo may be re-allocated to the next flight.

3.ENSURE YOUR CARGO IS RECEIVED EARLY

Your cargo should be delivered to the container freight station / wharf / airport in advance of the vessel or flight cut off time. Cut off times may vary during peak season or even close early if the vessel or flight is at capacity.

4. ADVISE YOUR FREIGHT FORWARDER

Tell us about your order. We can communicate with our agents and keep in touch with your supplier to receive updates on the cargo readiness.  We will also communicate with the shipping lines and airlines and  we will make your booking in far in advance as possible and keep you updated regarding space situations and back logs.

5.ENSURE YOUR PAPERWORK IS IN ORDER

Check that you have all the required paperwork needed for your import customs clearance (if you are not sure please ask us) & submit it to your customs broker well in advance of the shipment arrival date.

Digital Freight Forwarding the next big thing?

As customers enter new markets, especially in emerging economies, they are demanding much more than traditional transportation and warehousing services from their freight forwarding and contract logistics providers. For many freight forwarders, the ability to offer new, value-added services such as warranty processing, returns management and light manufacturing is now a differentiator, as is providing services such as customs and insurance brokerage, and trade and transportation management. FCL TERMINAL INFRASTRUCTURE LEVY

Following a review of terminal charges, all major ports in Sydney and Melbourne are set to increase their Terminal Infrastructure Levy commencing March 27th 2018.

DP World Australia has released the following statement
 “DPWA continues to face one of the most difficult markets in decades, arising from over capacity in the local stevedoring market, larger ships, the consolidation of shipping lines, as well as increased costs – including significant energy cost increase of 45% this last year along with property and rent related cost increases of 266% over the last decade.  DPWA is facing these challenges with a determination to continue to improve our service levels, efficiencies and invest in landside equipment and terminal capacity to handle greater peaks in container volumes. The highly competitive and challenging environment demands that we continue to monitor and adjust our tariff structures to respond to the changing market conditions”

Terminal Infrastructure Fee is passed on to our customers at cost, from 27th March 2018 the fee vary between
AUD 40.00 and AUD 55.00 per TEU

LCL CARGO INFRASTRUCTURE LEVY

Over recent years there has been many changes to the processes related to the handling of import and export ocean freight cargo.  Through out the freight supply chain, this has impacted our CFS depots considerably.

A CFS (Container Freight Station) depot is a licensed Customs and Quarantine facility that is engaged to facilitate the bonded unpacking of FAK / LCL shipments along with conducting a variety of inspections for both Australian Customs and Quarantine departments.
